Biscuit oven temperature: 425°F
Biscuit bake time: 20–25 minutes, depending on your pan and oven.
Ingredients
Biscuits
4½ cups Bisquick
1 cup sour cream
1 cup ice-cold 7-Up
Sausage Gravy
1 pound breakfast sausage
½ cup diced red bell pepper
½ cup diced green bell pepper
½ onion, diced
1 stick butter (8 tablespoons), divided
⅔ cup all-purpose flour
5 cups milk of your choice
Detailed Directions
Make the Biscuits
Preheat the oven to 425°F.
Place the Bisquick in a large mixing bowl. Cut the sour cream into the Bisquick with a fork or pastry blender until the mixture is evenly moistened by the sour cream.
Make a well in the center. Pour in the ice-cold 7-Up and gently fold until completely combined. Avoid overworking the dough.
Transfer the dough to your baking pan and form the biscuits as shown in Tiffany’s video.
Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden and baked through. The exact time depends on your pan and oven. Keep warm while finishing the gravy.
Make the Sausage Gravy
Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced red bell pepper, green bell pepper and onion. Sauté, stirring occasionally, until softened. Transfer the vegetables to a bowl and set aside.
Add the breakfast sausage to the same skillet. Cook over medium heat, breaking it into small crumbles, until browned and fully cooked.
Add the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter to the sausage and stir until melted.
Sprinkle the flour over the sausage. Stir to coat evenly, then cook for 3–5 minutes, stirring frequently so the flour cooks without scorching.
Return the sautéed vegetables to the skillet and stir to combine.
Slowly pour in the milk while stirring constantly. Add it gradually to help keep the gravy smooth and scrape up the flavorful browned bits from the skillet.
Continue cooking at a gentle simmer, stirring frequently, until thickened, about 7 minutes. Reduce the heat as needed to prevent sticking.
Split the warm biscuits and spoon the sausage gravy over the top. Serve warm.
Tiffany’s Tips
Keep the 7-Up ice cold and fold the biscuit dough gently.
The gravy uses 1 stick of butter total: 4 tablespoons for the vegetables and 4 tablespoons for the sausage.
Add the milk slowly and keep stirring for a smooth gravy.
