Biscuit Ingredients

  • 2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • ½ teaspoon granulated onion

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • ½ cup melted butter

  • 1 cup buttermilk

Garlic Butter Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons melted butter

  • 2 garlic cloves

  • Olive oil, enough to coat the garlic cloves

  • ¼ teaspoon garlic seasoning

  • ⅛ teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  1. Soften the garlic. Coat the two garlic cloves with olive oil and wrap them in foil. Air-fry on high for approximately 15 minutes, until soft. Carefully open the foil, allow the garlic to cool enough to handle, and mash.

  2. Prepare the oven and pan. Preheat your oven to 425°F. Grease a baking pan or cast-iron skillet.

  3. Combine the dry ingredients. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, garlic powder, granulated onion, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.

  4. Add the cheese. Stir in the shredded cheddar, tossing until the cheese is coated with the flour mixture.

  5. Combine the wet ingredients. In a measuring cup or separate bowl, stir the melted butter and buttermilk together.

  6. Make the dough. Slowly add the butter and buttermilk mixture to the dry ingredients. Gently fold until all the flour is hydrated. Stop mixing as soon as the dough comes together; avoid overmixing.

  7. Scoop into the pan. Use an ice cream scoop to portion the dough into the prepared pan or skillet.

  8. Bake. Bake for 15–20 minutes, checking the biscuits and rotating the pan halfway through. The tops should be golden and the centers baked through.

  9. Mix the garlic butter sauce. While the biscuits bake, combine the 3 tablespoons melted butter with the mashed garlic, garlic seasoning, and paprika.

  10. Brush and serve. Immediately after removing the biscuits from the oven, brush the hot tops generously with the garlic butter sauce. Serve warm!

Storage and Reheating

Allow leftover biscuits to cool, then place them in a zip-top bag, press out excess air, and refrigerate.

To reheat, air-fry on a low setting for about 2 minutes. Check and add a little more time if needed, until warmed through.
